Nagorno Karabakh - Agdamae Nam

The abandoned city of Agdam north east of Stepanakert. The city was once home to 100,000 people until fighting bewteen local fedayeen units (Armenian) and Azeri units broke out between 1989-1994. The city was captured by Armenian backed forces in 1994 and looted of all materials. The area remains abondoned due to the close proximity of the front line where both Azeri ad Armenian forces remain on constant standby for conflict...Only one family was observed living illegally in the city, Other locals visit to scavange copper and building materials from the remains of destroyed buildings. Unexploded ordnance (UXO) is a still a hazard more than 14 years after the end of the war...Nagorno Karabakh still legally remains part of Azerbaijan. It is not officially recoginsed as a sovereign state and is an independent state only according to the Nagorno Karabakh Declaration of Independence and can only be visited via Armenia.
